At Federated Insurance, we are very selective of the organizations we involve ourselves with. After all, our clients, shareholders, and employees rely on us to help manage their security, and we constantly strive to be good stewards of their faith and finances.

In this regard, once in a while, when a cause comes along that we identify with closely and that fits in well with our corporate values, we are not afraid to take a leadership position. Recently, Federated Insurance has partnered with hundreds of other individuals and companies in contributing towards the Canadian Museum for Human Rights, which turned sod this last December in Winnipeg.

"The cause of human rights is by its very nature a responsibility of all people, but we feel that responsibility acutely," says Federated Insurance President John Paisley. "We've come to understand diversity as a key to our success, and we see the intrinsic value in ensuring all people have the opportunity to pursue their dreams and goals without fear of hate, discrimination, or intolerance." So when the opportunity presented itself to promote the cause for years to come by building a wonderful landmark in the city where nearly a third of Federated Insurance employees live and work, the decision to get involved and lead by example became easy. "It's a project we can all believe in," says Mr. Paisley.

According to its website, "the Canadian Museum for Human Rights is envisioned to be a national and international destination -- a centre of learning and history where Canadians and people from other countries can engage in dialogue and commit to taking action to combat the forces of hate and oppression: Located in Winnipeg, at the cross roads of Canada, this museum is envisioned to be the largest human rights centre in the world, with a special focus on equipping and educating young people to become human rights leaders and advocates."

If you would like to get involved in this important and historic effort, the best place to start is www.canadianmuseumforhumanrights.com. Another effective way you can assist in the cause is checking to see if other companies and individuals you deal with are listed among the donors and, if not, encouraging them to get on board as well.
