We’re Federated Insurance.

We’ve been around for a long time. Federated Insurance can be traced all the way back to 1890, when a group of farm implement dealers in Minnesota formed an association to reduce their insurance costs. About 30 years later, in 1920, the company’s Canadian division was born, and our focus on serving Canadians with the highest level of customer service hasn’t wavered since. The company became 100% Canadian owned and operated by 1990 when it was purchased by Fairfax Financial Holdings Ltd.

Our insurance solutions

Giving back

Here at Federated Insurance, we believe it’s important to give back to the communities we serve. We match our employees’ qualifying charitable donations dollar-for-dollar, donate $500 towards each employee’s charity of choice for every 40 hours they volunteer, and give our teams one paid day each year to volunteer in their communities.

Our commitment to giving back is also why we’ve partnered with six organizations that are dedicated to changing people’s lives and improving our communities.

Our charitable partners

DAREarts Foundation

As a platinum sponsor, we work with Thrive Youth to help expose 10,000 children and youth to diverse cultural opportunities and arts education that they might not otherwise get—helping to empower them and unlock their potential.

Pathways to Education

Pathways to Education is helping to make Canada a Graduation Nation with a program proven to lower school dropout rates. Working alongside various school systems, Pathways to Education makes a multi-year commitment to both the youth and their families. Through a force of volunteers, the program delivers after-school tutoring, mentoring, and financial assistance to overcome the barriers that can stand in the way of education.

SickKids Foundation

The Hospital for Sick Children (SickKids) is Canada’s most research-intensive hospital and the country’s largest centre dedicated to improving children’s health. SickKids leads child health innovation by integrating care, research, and teaching.

We are committed to supporting SickKids research by funding endowments in support of a Chair in Pediatric Research, a Chair in Inflammatory Bowel Disease, the Fellowship in Leukemia Research, and the new Catalyst Scholar for Healthy Active Kids to combat childhood obesity in Canada.

Tree Canada

Tree Canada is a national charitable organization dedicated to the planting and maintenance of urban and rural trees across the country.

As an insurance company, getting our customers back to business after a catastrophe is what we’re all about. Supporting Tree Canada’s Operation ReLeaf allows us to help restore our community green spaces following a disaster. We also support the greening of five schools across Canada every year.

Jack.org

Jack.org is a national network of young leaders working to change the way we think about mental health. Through various initiatives and programs, all of which are designed with the input of young people, the organization is working to end the stigma around mental illness.

United Way Centraide

United Way Centraide is dedicated to creating positive change in communities across Canada. One of their focus areas is helping young people be all they can be. They partner with all levels of government, the business community, community agencies, and community members to reduce the barriers that youth face – from “cradle to career.”

As long-time supporters, we’re proud to contribute to United Way Centraide through an annual fundraising campaign.
