Social responsibility

Supporting our people, our customers and our communities

We believe that kids need a strong foundation to succeed in life. That’s why we support organizations that are committed to making a difference in the lives of children.

Our approach to social responsibility reflects our long standing history of giving and what our employees feel most passionate about — creating greater success for Canadian youth. To help us in this ambition of investing in our country’s tomorrow, we have proudly partnered with three national youth-focused organizations. We’ve also been long time supporters of the United Way and the Women in Insurance Cancer Crusade (WICC) and we’re proud to support Tree Canada, a leading non-profit charitable organization that promotes the planting and nurturing of trees in Canada.

Our charitable partners

As a platinum sponsor, we work with DAREarts Foundation to help expose 10,000 children and youth to diverse cultural opportunities and arts education that they might not otherwise get—helping to empower them and unlock their potential.
Pathways to Education is helping to make Canada a Graduation Nation with a program proven to lower dropout rates. Working alongside the school system, Pathways to Education makes a multi-year commitment to youth and their families. Through a force of volunteers, the program delivers after-school tutoring, mentoring, and financial assistance to overcome the barriers that can stand in the way of education.
The Hospital for Sick Children (SickKids) is Canada’s most research-intensive hospital and the country’s largest centre dedicated to improving children’s health. SickKids leads child health innovation by integrating care, research, and teaching.

We are committed to supporting SickKids research by funding endowments in support of a Chair in Pediatric Research, a Chair in Inflammatory Bowel Disease, the Fellowship in Leukemia Research, and the new Catalyst Scholar for Healthy Active Kids to combat childhood obesity in Canada.

Tree Canada is a national non-profit charitable organization dedicated to engaging communities, governments, corporations, and individuals in the pursuit of a greener and healthier living environment for Canadians.

In 2014, we’ve committed to restoring George Lane Park, an important landmark and recreational area along the Highwood River, in Alberta, that was devastated following severe flooding in 2013.

We are also supporting Tree Canada’s Greening Canada’s School Grounds Program, and in 2014-2015, we’ll be supporting the greening of 5 schools across Canada.

Partners for Mental Health is a national, non-profit organization with an overall mandate to improve mental health in Canada by working to mobilize and engage Canadians to drive change—including increased awareness and attention towards mental health; greater understanding and support for those living with a mental illness; and increased access to mental health services, treatment, and support.

We support Partners for Mental Health’s Right By You campaign, an innovative child and youth mental health education and literacy initiative that will help put mental health resources and support within reach of youth and families affected by mental health issues and mental illness.

Supporting our employees’ passion for their communities

  • Donation matching
Matching our employees’ charitable donations dollar-for-dollar means double the support for the causes that are close to their hearts.
  • Volunteer grants
For every 40 hours our employees donate in volunteer time, we’ll match it with $500 towards their organization of choice.
  • Team volunteer days
We think being socially responsible is an important part of our job, so we give our teams one day each year to volunteer in their communities.
